May 30, 2002 e-mail to Norma regarding alternative handouts...

Norma,

http://morro-bay.com/birdfest/  now contains two amateur maps (each in color and gray-level versions) highlighting the areas you requested. I have a new appreciation for the amount of work and expense that can go into making a professional map.

I'm a firm believer in not replicating good professional work.

It is my recommendation that, in addition to the two maps I created, that the Bird Festival organization should arrange to procure legal copies of TWO excellent documents I found during my research:

(1) The beautiful one-page two-sided color brochure "Morro Bay Estuary, A Self-Guided Tour" (Morro Bay Habitat Overview) published by Friends of the Estuary at Morro Bay. I noticed that PG&E Diablo Canyon printed these for the organization.

You can should be able to obtain copies by contacting...
http://www.friendsofestuary.org/

The map says copyright the Bay Foundation.

I would think that the Friends of the Estuary would give the Bird Festival copies of this document for free, as it contains an application form attached to join the organization.

I have one copy of this document if you don't know what I'm talking about. It details all of the best bird-watching locations in the area, and details directions and streets to get there.  This is a "must-have" handout!

I bet the Morro Bay National Estuary group at
Headquarters, Visitor Center & Volunteer Center
601 Embarcadero, Suite 11
Morro Bay CA 93442
Phone 805-772-3834 Fax 805-772-4162 can also help you out if you have trouble contacting the above.

(2) The 11"x17" 2-sided detailed map of Morro Bay, Los Osos, Baywood Park, SLO, Cayucos, and Cambria produced by the Chicago Title company.
Morro Bay Office 805-771-8064
SLO Office 805-543-2900

This detailed map is excellent, and I would think you could get FREE copies, as publicity for the Chicago Title company.  This is also a "must-have" handout!

Please let me know what you decide.  Give me a call and I'll be glad to come over with copies of all the above.

Regards,
